February 13, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 0.3% at 2,663.02. The DJIA closed up 0.2% at 24,640.79. Separately, the Nasdaq was up 0.5% at 7,013.51.
Tuesday was a third consecutive positive day for the U.S. markets, although it did have a rocky start. All three major exchanges pushed higher again on Tuesday. Crude oil is still below $60 and it was again relatively flat in Tuesday’s session. The S&P 500 sectors were almost entirely positive. The most positive sectors were real estate and utilities up 0.8% and 0.6%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were energy and materials down 0.4% and 0.3%, respectively.
Crude oil was relatively flat at $59.23.
Gold was up 0.4% at $1,331.60.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Tuesday was Henry Schein, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSIC) which traded down over 6% at $67.49. The stock’s 52-week range is $63.01 to $93.50. Volume was over 12 million compared to the daily average volume of roughly 2 million.
The stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close Tuesday was AmerisourceBergen Corp. (NYSE: ABC) which rose about 9% to $97.87. The stock’s 52-week range is $71.90 to $106.27. Volume was about 9 million compared to the daily average volume of roughly 2 million.
