Thursday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

April 26, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 1.1% at 2,667.17. The DJIA closed up 1.0% at 24,323.44. Separately, the Nasdaq was up 1.6% at 7,118.68.

Thursday was a positive day for the broad U.S. markets with each average up about 1%. This is a much needed reprieve for the markets as four out of the last five trading days were largely negative. Crude oil more or less traded sideways on Thursday, but it is still less than $2 away from $70. The S&P 500 sectors were almost entirely positive. The most positive sectors were technology and consumer discretionary up 1.9% and 1.6%, respectively. The worst performing sector was industrials down 0.5%.

Crude oil was flat at $68.04.

Gold was down 0.4% at $1,318.20.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Thursday was LKQ Corp. (NASDAQ: LKQ) which traded down about 19% at $30.43. The stock’s 52-week range is $29.60 to $43.86. Volume was 15 million compared to the daily average volume of 1.8 million.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close Thursday was Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (NYSE: CMG) which rose over 24% to $422.49. The stock’s 52-week range is $247.52 to $499.00. Volume was 7 million compared to the daily average volume of 1.2 million.
