Tuesday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

May 29, 2018: The S&P 500 closed down 1.2% at 2,689.88. The DJIA closed down 1.6% at 24,362.48. Separately, the Nasdaq was down 0.5% at 7,396.59.

Tuesday was a down day for the broad U.S. markets. Crude oil saw a big drop in Tuesday’s session added to a 5% drop last week. The S&P 500 sectors were mostly negative. The most positive sectors were utilities and real estate up 0.0% and 0.3%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were financials and materials down 3.4% and 1.7% respectively.

Crude oil was last seen trading down 1.6% at $66.79.

Gold was last seen trading flat at $1,301.70.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close was BorgWarner Inc. (NYSE: BWA) which traded down about 6% at $48.55. The stock’s 52-week range is $40.00 to $58.22. Volume was roughly 3 million compared to the daily average volume of 1.4 million.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close Tuesday was Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MU) which rose about 2% to $62.62. The stock’s 52-week range is $26.85 to $63.98. Volume was 73.6 million compared to the daily average volume of 57.5 million.
