
June 28, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 0.6% at 2,716.44. The DJIA closed up 0.4% at 24,217.85. Separately, the Nasdaq was up 0.8% at 7,503.68.
Thursday started out as another down day for the broad U.S. markets but ultimately ended positively. Crude oil again pushed much higher in the session, for its third consecutive day. The S&P 500 sectors were mostly positive. The most positive sectors were technology and real estate, up 1.2% and 1.0%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were energy and utilities, down 0.2% and 0.1%, respectively.
Crude oil was last seen trading up 0.7% at $73.24.
Gold was last seen trading down 0.7% at $1,248.90.
The stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Frontier Communications Corp. (NASDAQ: FTR) which fell about 12% to $5.25. The stock’s 52-week range is $5.25 to $18.30. Volume was about 10 million compared to the daily average volume of 3.5 million.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was McCormick & Co., Inc. (NYSE: MKC) which traded up about 8% at $114.61. The stock’s 52-week range is $90.25 to $117.82. Volume was about 4 million compared to the daily average volume of 1 million.
