Friday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

July 13, 2018: The S&P 500 closed flat at 2,801.16. The DJIA closed up 0.4% at 25,016.69. Separately, the Nasdaq was flat at 7,825.98.

Friday was a relatively positive day for the broad U.S. markets, with all the major averages closing the week with gains. Crude oil was marginally up to close out the week. The S&P 500 sectors were more or less split down the middle. The most positive sectors were industrials and consumer staples up 0.6% each. The worst performing sectors were financials and real estate down 0.5% and 0.3%, respectively.

Crude oil was last seen trading up 0.6% at $70.73.

Gold was last seen trading down 0.4% at $1,241.70.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) which fell about 4% to $41.78. The stock’s 52-week range is $30.36 to $46.37. Volume was about 47 million compared to the daily average volume of 21.6 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inc. (NYSE: DO) which traded up about 3% at $20.50. The stock’s 52-week range is $10.09 to $21.92. Volume was roughly 1.7 million compared to the daily average volume of 1.7 million.
