Monday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

July 16, 2018: The S&P 500 closed flat at 2,798.42. The DJIA closed up 0.2% at 25,063.68. Separately, the Nasdaq was down 0.3% at 7,805.72.

Monday was a mixed day for the broad U.S. markets, although the broad markets traded sideways more than anything else. Crude oil suffered another massive loss, dropping it back below $70. The S&P 500 sectors were mostly negative. The most positive sectors were financials and consumer discretionary up 1.7% and 0.2%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were energy and materials down 1.2% and 0.8%, respectively.

Crude oil was last seen trading down 4% at $68.23.

Gold was last seen trading flat at $1,241.10.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Alliance Data Systems Corp. (NYSE: ADS) which fell about 10% to $218.96. The stock’s 52-week range is $192.02 to $278.33. Volume was about 1.6 million compared to the daily average volume of about half a million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was V.F. Corp. (NYSE: VFC) which traded up over 4% at $88.77. The stock’s 52-week range is $55.51 to $88.99. Volume was about 4 million compared to the daily average volume of 2 million.
