Wednesday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

July 18, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 0.2% at 2,815.63. The DJIA closed up 0.3% at 25,199.90. Separately, the Nasdaq was flat at 7,854.44.

Wednesday was a relatively positive day for the broad U.S. markets, with the Nasdaq hovering near all-time highs. Crude oil made a solid gain in the session. The S&P 500 sectors were more or less split down the middle. The most positive sectors were financials and industrials up 1.5% and 1.1%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were consumer staples and utilities 0.8% and 0.5%, respectively.

Crude oil was last seen trading up 1.3% at $68.94.

Gold was last seen trading flat at $1,227.60.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was The Clorox Company (NYSE: CLX) which fell about 4% to $129.62. The stock’s 52-week range is $113.57 to $150.40. Volume was about 3 million compared to the daily average volume of 1.4 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was W.W. Grainger, Inc. (NYSE: GWW) which traded up 11% at $338.89. The stock’s 52-week range is $155.00 to $341.80. Volume was about 3 million compared to the daily average volume of 0.7 million.
