Wednesday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

July 25, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 0.9% at 2,846.05. The DJIA closed up 0.7% at 25,414.44. Separately, the Nasdaq was up 1.2% at 7,932.24.

Wednesday was a very positive day for the broad U.S. markets. Both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq are holding just under their all-time highs. Crude oil made another decent gain in the session. The S&P 500 sectors were entirely positive. The most positive sectors were industrials, technology and health care up 1.2%, 1.0% and 1.0%, respectively. The “worst” performing sector was utilities up 0.1%.

Crude oil was last seen trading up 1.2% at $69.33.

Gold was last seen trading up 0.6% at $1,232.70.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Navient Corp. (NASDAQ: NAVI) which fell over 6% to $13.17. The stock’s 52-week range is $11.48 to $15.61. Volume was just over 4 million compared to the daily average volume of 4 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was FLIR Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: FLIR) which traded up about 12% at $58.64. The stock’s 52-week range is $36.43 to $58.78. Volume was 3 million compared to the daily average volume of 1 a million.
