August 3, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 0.5% at 2,840.25. The DJIA closed up 0.5% at 25,459.67. Separately, the Nasdaq was flat at 7,812.01.

Thursday was a positive day for the broad U.S. markets, capping a solid week for all of the major averages. Crude oil continued to flip flop and ended up posting a loss for the week. The S&P 500 sectors were almost entirely positive. The most positive sectors were real estate and consumer staples up 1.3% and 1.2%, respectively. The worst performing sector was energy down 0.6%.

Crude oil was last seen trading down 0.5% at $68.64.

Gold was last seen trading up 0.2% at $1,222.30.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Stericycle, Inc. (NASDAQ: SRCL) which fell about 13% to $61.54. The stock’s 52-week range is $56.64 to $82.16. Volume was over 3 million compared to the daily average volume of 0.8 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was The Kraft Heinz Co. (NASDAQ: KHC) which traded up over 8% at $64.56. The stock’s 52-week range is $54.11 to $87.58. Volume was about 15 million compared to the daily average volume of 4.8 million.
