Friday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

August 24, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 0.6% at 2,874.78. The DJIA closed up 0.5% at 25,790.91. Separately, the Nasdaq was up 0.9% at 7,945.98.

Friday was a positive day for the broad U.S. markets, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq hitting new all-time highs. Crude oil posted another gain in the session. The S&P 500 sectors were practically all positive. The most positive sectors were materials and technology up 1.3% and 1.0%, respectively. The worst performing sector was consumer staples which was flat.

Crude oil was last seen trading up 1.1% at $68.56.

Gold was last seen trading up 1.5% at $1,211.50.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Foot Locker, Inc. (NYSE: FL) which fell about 9% to $48.30. The stock’s 52-week range is $28.42 to $59.40. Volume was about 18 million compared to the daily average volume of 3.3 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) which traded up about 15% at $156.69. The stock’s 52-week range is $101.55 to $157.78. Volume was about 8 million compared to the daily average volume of 1.9 million.
