September 11, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 0.4% at 2,887.97. The DJIA closed up 0.4% at 25,971.12. Separately, the Nasdaq was up 0.6% at 7,972.47.
Tuesday was a positive day for the broad U.S. markets. Crude oil more than recovered from Monday in this session. The S&P 500 sectors were more or less split down the middle. The most positive sectors were energy and technology up 1.0% and 0.8%. The worst performing sectors were consumer staples and utilities down 0.4%, and 0.3%, respectively.
Crude oil was last seen trading up 2.7% at $69.36.
Gold was last seen trading flat at $1,201.20.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was AmerisourceBergen Corp. (NYSE: ABC) which fell about 5% to $84.13. The stock’s 52-week range is $71.90 to $106.27. Volume was about 2.4 million compared to the daily average volume of 1.3 million.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was Activision Blizzard, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATVI) which traded up 7% at $79.50. The stock’s 52-week range is $57.29 to $81.64. Volume was 13.5 million compared to the daily average volume of 5.8 million.
