Thursday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

September 27, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 0.3% at 2,914.07. The DJIA closed up 0.2% at 26,440.41. Separately, the Nasdaq closed up 0.7% at 8,041.97.

Thursday was a positive day for the broad U.S. markets. All three major indices recovered handily from Wednesday’s drop. Crude oil made a solid gain in the session. The S&P 500 sectors were more or less split down the middle. The most positive sectors were utilities and technology up 0.9% and 0.5%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were materials and financials down 0.9% and 0.3%, respectively.

Crude oil was last seen trading down 0.9% at $72.23.

Gold was last seen trading down 0.9% at $1,188.10.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Conagra Brands, Inc. (NYSE: CAG) which fell about 9% to $32.97. The stock’s 52-week range is $32.81 to $39.43. Volume was about 16 million compared to the daily average volume of 5.4 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: REGN) which traded up about 4% at $405.99. The stock’s 52-week range is $281.89 to $477.00. Volume was less than 1 million compared to the daily average volume of 0.7 million.
