Friday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

September 28, 2018: The S&P 500 closed flat at 2,913.94. The DJIA closed flat at 26,457.56. Separately, the Nasdaq closed flat at 8,046.35.

Friday was a flat day for the broad U.S. markets. All three major indices were fairly positive at one point during the day but ultimately regressed. Crude oil made another solid gain in the session. The S&P 500 sectors were more or less split down the middle. The most positive sectors were utilities and real estate up 1.5% and 1.2%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were materials and financials down 0.7% and 1.1%, respectively.

Crude oil was last seen trading up 1.7% at $73.35.

Gold was last seen trading up 0.7% at $1,196.00.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was S&P Global Inc. (NYSE: SPGI) which fell about 4% to $195.88. The stock’s 52-week range is $153.25 to $217.31. Volume was about 2 million compared to the daily average volume of 1 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ: NVDA) which traded up about 5% at $280.83. The stock’s 52-week range is $177.00 to $285.22. Volume was over 16 million compared to the daily average volume of 9.2 million.
