Monday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

October 15, 2018: The S&P 500 closed down 0.6% at 2,750.76. The DJIA closed down 0.4% at 25,249.47. Separately, the Nasdaq closed down 0.9% at 7,430.74.

Monday was a down day for the broad U.S. markets. Although the S&P 500 and the Dow were each positive at some point in the day, each ended up lower. Crude oil posted a small gain in the session. The S&P 500 sectors were mostly positive. The most positive sectors were real estate and consumer staples up 1.0%, and 0.9%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were technology and energy down 1.2% and 0.4%, respectively.

Crude oil was last seen trading up 0.4% at $71.62.

Gold was last seen trading up 0.6% at $1,228.90.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Occidental Petroleum Corp. (NYSE: OXY) which fell by about 6% to $72.32. The stock’s 52-week range is $62.47 to $87.67. Volume was about 8 million compared to the daily average volume of 4.4 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was L3 Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: LLL) which traded up over 13% at $221.52. The stock’s 52-week range is $180.24 to $222.64. Volume was about 4 million compared to the daily average volume of about half a million.
