Tuesday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

November 6, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 0.6% at 2,755.46. The DJIA closed up 0.7% at 25,638.47. Separately, the Nasdaq closed up 0.6% at 7,375.96.

Tuesday was a positive day for the broad U.S. markets. Although there seemed to be a lot of uncertainty leading up to this Election Day, it seems the markets are taking it in stride now that it’s here. Crude oil turned lower yet again. The S&P 500 sectors were entirely positive. The most positive sectors were materials, utilities, and industrials up 1.4%, 0.6%, and 0.9%, respectively. The “worst” performing sector was energy up only 0.1%.

Crude oil was last seen trading down 1.6% at $62.10.

Gold was last seen trading down 0.4% at $1,227.20.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close Nektar Therapeutics (NASDAQ: NKTR) which fell by about 10% to $36.08. The stock’s 52-week range is $24.94 to $111.36. Volume was over 4 million compared to the daily average volume of 2.2 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) which traded up about 12% at $22.54. The stock’s 52-week range is $17.49 to $29.73. Volume was nearly 30 million compared to the daily average volume of 8.4 million.
