November 7, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 2.1% at 2,813.67. The DJIA closed up 2.1% at 26,178.27. Separately, the Nasdaq closed up 2.6% at 7,570.75.

Wednesday was a positive day for the broad U.S. markets. Each of the major averages tacked on a gain of at least 2% in the session. Crude oil turned lower yet again. The S&P 500 sectors were entirely positive. The most positive sectors were health care, technology, and consumer discretionary up 2.8%, 2.7%, and 2.5%, respectively. The “worst” performing sector was consumer staples up only 0.5%.

Crude oil was last seen trading down 0.9% at $61.64.

Gold was last seen trading flat at $1,227.00.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Michael Kors Holdings Limited (NYSE: KORS) which fell by about 15% to $48.58. The stock’s 52-week range is $47.47 to $75.96. Volume was over 14 million compared to the daily average volume of 2.4 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was Cimarex Energy Co. (NYSE: XEC) which traded up about 11% at $92.67. The stock’s 52-week range is $77.63 to $130.16. Volume was over 5 million compared to the daily average volume of 1.5 million.
