November 14, 2018: The S&P 500 closed down 0.8% at 2,701.75. The DJIA closed down 0.8% at 25,081.04. Separately, the Nasdaq closed down 0.9% at 7,136.39.
Wednesday was another down day for the broad U.S. markets. Crude oil bounced back slightly after getting absolutely crushed on Tuesday. The S&P 500 sectors were almost entirely negative. The most positive sector was real estate which was flat. The worst performing sectors were finance and technology down 1.3% and 1.2%, respectively.
Crude oil was last seen trading up 1.0% at $56.27.
Gold was last seen trading up 0.9% at $1,212.20.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was PG&E Corp. (NYSE: PCG) which fell by about 22% to $25.66. The stock’s 52-week range is $22.35 to $56.90. Volume was nearly 52 million compared to the daily average volume of 7.0 million.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was Owens-Illinois, Inc. (NYSE: OI) which traded up over 4% at $17.50. The stock’s 52-week range is $15.67 to $24.66. Volume was 2.4 million compared to the daily average volume of 1.3 million.
