
November 16, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 0.2% at 2,736.30. The DJIA closed up 0.5% at 25,413.29. Separately, the Nasdaq closed down 0.2% at 7,247.87.
Friday was a fairly positive day for the broad U.S. markets. Although Friday was a good day, each of the major averages ended the week lower going into the Thanksgiving holiday week. Crude oil continued to bounce back after getting absolutely crushed earlier in the week. The S&P 500 sectors were almost entirely positive. The most positive sectors were utilities and energy up 1.5% and 1.4%, respectively. The worst performing sector was consumer discretionary down 0.2%.
Crude oil was last seen trading up 0.5% at $56.73.
Gold was last seen trading up 0.6% at $1,222.40.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ: NVDA) which fell by about 18% to $164.43. The stock’s 52-week range is $161.61 to $292.76. Volume was nearly 48 million compared to the daily average volume of 12.5 million.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was PG&E Corp. (NYSE: PCG) which traded up about 38% at $24.40. The stock’s 52-week range is $17.26 to $55.35. Volume was 53 million compared to the daily average volume of 9.2 million.
