November 30, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 0.8% at 2,759.14. The DJIA closed up 0.7% at 25,510.11. Separately, the Nasdaq closed up 0.8% at 7,330.54.
Friday was a positive day for the broad U.S. markets. Each of the major averages started out the session on a negative note but ultimately ended the day positive. Crude oil was pushed back down again on Friday. The S&P 500 sectors were almost entirely positive with one key exception. The most positive sectors were utilities, industrials, and real estate up 1.4%, 1.0%, and 0.9%, respectively. The worst performing sector was energy down 0.4%.
Crude oil was last seen trading down 1.8% at $50.53.
Gold was last seen trading down 0.3% at $1,227.20.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close was Laboratory Corp. of America Holdings (NYSE: LH) which traded down about 10% at $145.80. The stock’s 52-week range is $142.49 to $190.36. Volume was 3.6 million compared to the daily average volume of 0.8 million.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was SVB Financial Group (NASDAQ: SIVB) which rose by about 5% to $255.08. The stock’s 52-week range is $216.32 to $333.74. Volume was about 1 million compared to the daily average volume of 0.6 million.
