Friday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

February 8, 2019: The S&P 500 closed flat at 2,707.81. The DJIA closed down 0.3% at 25,105.79. Separately, the Nasdaq closed flat at 7,298.20.

Friday was a flat day for the broad U.S. markets. Although there were some ups and downs over the course of the week, it ultimately ended relatively flat. Crude oil was more or less flat for the day. The S&P 500 sectors were split down the middle. The most positive sectors were utilities and technology up 0.5% each. The worst performing sectors were energy and financial, down 0.4% and 0.5%, respectively.

Crude oil was last seen flat at $52.64.

Gold was last seen trading up 0.3% at $1,318.40.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close was Henry Schein, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSIC) which traded down over 5% at $59.15. The stock’s 52-week range is $57.78 to $91.35. Volume was 5.7 million compared to the daily average volume of 1.5 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAT) which rose by over 23% to $15.23. The stock’s 52-week range is $9.09 to $18.02. Volume was about 37.5 million compared to the daily average volume of 4.8 million.
