February 26, 2019: The S&P 500 closed flat at 2,793.78. The DJIA closed flat at 26,057.98. Separately, the Nasdaq closed flat at 7,549.30.
Tuesday was a flat day for the broad U.S. markets. We saw Home Depot and Macy’s report today. And as this week goes on we are looking forward to some more major retailers posting their quarterly results. Crude oil inched forward in the session. The S&P 500 sectors were mostly negative. The most positive sectors were technology and consumer discretionary up 0.3% and 0.2%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were materials and health care, down 0.4% and 0.2%, respectively.
Crude oil was last seen up 0.3% at $55.65.
Gold was last seen trading flat at $1,330.80.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close was Oneok, Inc. (NYSE: OKE) which traded down about 5% at $64.28. The stock’s 52-week range is $50.26 to $71.99. Volume was about 5.6 million compared to the daily average volume of 2.9 million.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was The J. M. Smucker Co. (NYSE: SJM) which rose by about 5% to $106.11. The stock’s 52-week range is $91.32 to $133.38. Volume was about 2.6 million compared to the daily average volume of 1.2 million.
