Wednesday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

March 6, 2019: The S&P 500 closed down 0.7% at 2,771.53. The DJIA closed down 0.5% at 25,674.47. Separately, the Nasdaq closed down 0.9% at 7,505.92.

Wednesday was a down day for the broad U.S. markets. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones are continuing to pull back from their highs this year. Crude oil dipped as well in the session. The S&P 500 sectors were mostly negative. The most positive sectors were materials and utilities up 0.4% and 0.2%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were energy and health care, down 1.5% and 1.4%, respectively.

Crude oil was last seen down 0.6% at $56.22.

Gold was last seen trading flat at $1,287.80.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close was General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) which traded down about 8% at $9.10. The stock’s 52-week range is $6.40 to $14.99. Volume was about 190 million compared to the daily average volume of 122 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was LyondellBasell Industries N.V. (NYSE: LYB) which rose by about 6% to $89.22. The stock’s 52-week range is $77.52 to $119.39. Volume was 3.8 million compared to the daily average volume of 2.6 million.
