Thursday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

March 14, 2019: The S&P 500 closed flat at 2,808.55. The DJIA closed flat at 25,710.68. Separately, the Nasdaq closed flat at 7,630.91.

Thursday was a relatively flat day for the broad U.S. markets. All three of the major exchanges shifted between positive and negative throughout the session but ultimately closed flat, after an incredible Monday and Wednesday. Crude oil made a slight gain in the session. The S&P 500 sectors were more or less split down the middle. The most positive sectors were financial and technology up 0.4% and 0.2%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were materials and industrials down 0.8% and 0.4%, respectively.

Crude oil was last seen up 0.4% at $58.50.

Gold was last seen trading down 1.1% at $1,295.40.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close was Dollar General Corp. (NYSE: DG) which traded down about 7.5% at $111.61. The stock’s 52-week range is $86.87 to $121.27. Volume was about 11 million compared to the daily average volume of 2.2 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was TechnipFMC PLC (NYSE: FTI) which rose by about 5% to $23.00. The stock’s 52-week range is $18.20 to $34.39. Volume was 8.2 million compared to the daily average volume of 4.3 million.
