Monday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

March 25, 2019: The S&P 500 closed flat at 2,798.40. The DJIA closed flat at 25,519.00. Separately, the Nasdaq closed flat at 7,637.45.

Monday was a mixed day for the broad U.S. markets. The S&P 500 and DJIA shifted between negative and positive throughout the entire day ultimately ending relatively flat. This is coming off of Friday’s session which was one of the worst sessions of the year thus far. Crude oil traded sideways in the session. The S&P 500 sectors were more or less split down the middle. The most positive sectors were consumer discretionary and consumer staples up 0.6%, and 0.2%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were technology and financials down 0.5% each.

Crude oil was last seen flat at $58.97.

Gold was last seen trading up 0.7% at $1,321.70.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close was Abiomed, Inc. (NASDAQ: ABMD) which traded down about 3% at $313.03. The stock’s 52-week range is $274.02 to $459.75. Volume was about 0.6 million compared to the daily average volume of about half a million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAB) which rose by about 4% to $26.32. The stock’s 52-week range is $23.31 to $34.44. Volume was 10.8 million compared to the daily average volume of 4.4 million.
