March 28, 2019: The S&P 500 closed up 0.4% at 2,815.46. The DJIA closed up 0.4% at 25,717.19. Separately, the Nasdaq closed up 0.3% at 7,669.17.
Thursday was a positive day for the broad U.S. markets. The S&P 500 and DJIA bounced back from a surprisingly negative Wednesday, regaining the hope of ending the week with a gain. Crude oil more or less traded sideways. The S&P 500 sectors were almost entirely positive. The most positive sectors were materials, industrials, and financials up 0.9%, 0.8%, and 0.8%, respectively. The worst performing sector was utilities down 1.1%.
Crude oil was last seen flat at $59.41.
Gold was last seen trading down 1.6% at $1,296.10.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close was Nielsen Holdings PLC (NYSE: NLSN) which traded down about 11% at $23.65. The stock’s 52-week range is $20.53 to $34.86. Volume was about 18.5 million compared to the daily average volume of about 3.3 million.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was PVH Corp. (NYSE: PVH) which rose by about 15% to $127.19. The stock’s 52-week range is $86.46 to $169.22. Volume was 5.2 million compared to the daily average volume of 1.1 million.
