Roustabouts Have Worst Jobs, Software Engineers Best

Working on a oil rig is a bad job. Working as a software engineer is great.

“Twelve-hour shifts, exposure to the elements in hostile environments, low pay, high risk of injury and isolation from loved ones for weeks at a time are just some of the factors that combine to make Roustabout the worst job of 2011,” CareerCast reports

On the other hand, an engineer’s job at Google is the best job around.

“The geeks strike back: despite enduring an industry bubble and the threat of outsourcing, Software Engineer ranks as the Best Job of 2011.”

Software engineer was followed by mathematician, actuary, statistician, computer systems analyst, and meteorologist on the top ten list of best jobs.

Among the list of worst jobs were iron worker, lumberjack, and roofer.

No one wants to work outside any more.
