As places to work, though, job-seekers are pretty much on their own. If you have a Ph.D., any college or university with a tenure track position in your field is very likely to be considered a good place to work. According to a recent report by the American Society for Cell Biologists, 9,000 new biology Ph.D.s are minted every year, and just 15% of those will get a tenure track faculty job within six years of graduation.
How do university employees who are not teachers like their employers? What is important to them? And how do those lucky few Ph.D.s like their employers? The team at Glassdoor compiles reviews and information from employees, including reports on pay, benefits and top management among other things, and use that data to match job-seekers to employers.
The researchers at Glassdoor have just released their fourth annual report on the top 25 universities to work for, and for the second time in four years Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, is the top-rated university to work for. One BYU employee comment sums it up:
Schedules are flexible, the work is fulfilling and satisfying, and there are a lot of great people to work with. Conversations in the office are interesting and we frequently learn new things from each other.
