NOAA Shows Spill Moves Deeper In Gulf And Toward Florida

New maps from the NOAA show the spill from the Deepwater Horizon spreading toward Cuba and the southern tip of Florida. The leak has now been pumping roughly 15,000 barrels of crude into the water for 42 days.
BP plc (NYSE: BP) and government officials say that the only way to stop the flow may be to drill new wells to relieve pressure on the current flow. Those efforts would take up to 90 days, meaning the leak could last as long as 130 days. That would mean that nearly 20 million barrels would have gushed into the Gulf. The Exxon Valdez disaster in released 260,000 gallons.
