The US Coast Guard and BP plc hope that a massive Taiwanese tanker fitted with special oil collection equipment can skim massive amounts of crude from the surface of the Gulf.
The ship has been nicknamed “The Whale” because of its size and its method of collecting oil by bring water though outer doors on the bow of the vessel. “The Whale” is ten stories high and over 300 yards long.
The capability of the ship is being tested on July 3 and July 4
