Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) has announced that it will acquire London-based video software and content security firm NDS Group Ltd. for approximately $5 billion, including debt and retention bonuses. NDS is 49% owned by News Corp. (NASDAQ: NWS).
NDS develops software that provides secure delivery of video content to digital TVs, digital set-top boxes, PCs and mobile devices. News Corp. uses the company’s products to control availability of channels to its customers.
The acquisition is expected to close in the second half of this year, following the usual regulatory approvals.
