Angry Birds Space Tops 10 Million Downloads (AAPL, GOOG)

The enormously popular Angry Birds game released a new version last week, called Angry Birds Space, and so far consumers have downloaded some 10 million copies of the game, which is available for the iPhone from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL), phones that use the Android operating system from Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG), and other platforms including PCs. The game’s developer, Rovio, offers a free version and a paid version.

Rovio is also developing activity parks based on the game. The first of these parks will open in late April in Finland, Rovio’s home. The company hopes to meld the digital and real worlds by offering additional game content, rewards, and special features to park visitors, according to a report in the UK’s The Telegraph newspaper.
