Walt Disney Co.’s (NYSE: DIS) Buena Vista Studios is on track to see its “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” become the second-highest grossing movie so far this year. On its opening weekend two weeks ago, the film grossed $199.6 million.

With “Guardian’s” second weekend expected to gross another $63 million, the film would pass both Universal’s “The Fate of the Furious ($211.1 million) and Fox’s “Logan” ($225.3 million) as the second highest grossing film of the year after just two weeks in wide release. The top-grossing movie of the year so far is Buena Vista’s “Beauty and the Beast” with more than $490 million in box office receipts.

BoxOfficeMojo has forecast that “Guardians” will do better than the average 57l.4% drop between opening and second weekend receipts for the four films in its Marvel First Sequels competition. “Avengers: Age of Ultron” grossed nearly $290 million in its first two weekends of release in 2015, more than double the box office of the current second-place “Captain America 2” which grossed more than $136 million in its first two weekends.

Adding in foreign box office sales of more than $326 million, “Guardians 2” grossed over $525 million in its first weekend of worldwide release. The film opens in Japan this weekend which should push the worldwide total up nicely.

Among the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the first Guardians movie, “Guardians of the Galaxy,” grossed a worldwide total of $773.3 million, but its U.S.opening weekend gross of $94.3 million is well below the $146 million posted last weekend by “Guardians 2.”
