Top 10 Pirated Movies From Last Week

Online piracy has been a growing problem in recent years whether its software, video games, TV shows or even movies. The latter has cost studios millions of dollars in lost ticket sales and stolen content. In just 2016 alone, the Motion Picture Association of America said that nearly $1 billion worth of pirated movies and TV shows were downloaded.

Even as piracy has grown, online streaming has taken off as well, with the advent of Netflix, Hulu, HBO and others, but these are subscription-based channels. However, there are other avenues for watching content online without having to pay subscription fees that many are using to subvert the appropriate channels.

One of the more popular mediums for downloading and watching content is BitTorrent, which operates as a peer-to-peer file-sharing service. It is capable of distributing a massive amount of data over the internet.

Although it is widely known that many files are shared and downloaded illegally over this service, it still manages to operate. Authorities use the site as well to track some users who don’t hide their IP addresses via a proxy and nab them for illegally distributing or downloading this content.

24/7 Wall St. has taken a look at some of the more popular movies that were pirated this past week. These are the top 10 most pirated movies of the past week on BitTorrent:
