The Next Generation of Tanks, Artillery, and Armored Vehicles
Published:
24/7 Wall St. Insights:
Recent conflicts, such as Russia’s war with Ukraine, have exposed the vulnerabilities of traditional tanks and armored vehicles. Their slower speed and reduced maneuverability make them prime targets for anti-tank missiles and other anti-armor weapons. (These are the newest guns to see everyday U.S. military use.)
However, thanks to recent advancements in military technology, the next generation of tanks will be even better than before, serving as crucial elements in ground combat.
The Challenger 3, for example, is currently in development in the United Kingdom and is expected to be introduced in 2027. These tanks will come standard with a 120mm L55A1 smoothbore main gun, 12.7mm and 7.62mm machine guns, and smoke grenade dischargers. A defining feature of the Challenger 3 is that it is built on the chassis of the old Challenger 2 tanks in a “life-extension” program. This upgraded model features a new turret and further modifications to the body of the tank. (These are the 15 largest tank battles in history.)
To identify the next generation of tanks, artillery, and armored vehicles around the world, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed a catalog of vehicles from Military Factory, an online database of arms, vehicles, and aircraft used by militaries worldwide. We ordered these vehicles alphabetically and included supplemental information regarding the type of vehicle, country of origin, manufacturer, top speed, and armament.
The mechanization of militaries in the early 20th century has been instrumental in the outcome of every major modern global conflict. The drive to possess the latest and most advanced technology is fueling increased military spending worldwide. As a result, global corporations like NORINCO, General Dynamics, and BAe Systems generate billions in revenue each year through government contracts. We’re writing this article to help you better understand how far-reaching military technology affects the economy on both a global and national scale.
