Macy's Offering Up to 75% Discounts for Post-Christmas Shoppers

Our coverage of holiday and after-Christmas sales has focused on electronics gear like TVs, smartwatches and the like. Partly that’s because these items are heavily promoted by some of the country’s biggest retailers and partly that’s because the apparel business has been so soft in the past few months.

The result of that softness, by all accounts due in large part to warm weather, is that department stores are offering big savings on a huge variety of items. Macy’s Inc. (NYSE: M) kicked off an “after-Christmas” sale the weekend before the actual holiday, and on Monday launched a four-day really after-Christmas sale with savings of up to 75% available on literally thousands of items. Here’s a sample.

A pair of Nike boys Free 5.0 running shoes from Finish Line is on sale for $48.98, down from an original price of $84.99 and a previous sale price of $69.98. These shoes are available until January 20 at that price.

A men’s leather bomber jacket from Izod with an original price of $495 is on sale for $229.99, a savings of more than 50%. Purchasers can also receive an additional 15% discount at checkout, knocking the price down to around $195.50 for an overall savings of about 60%. Macy’s had been selling the jacket for $299.99.

For women, an asymmetrical belted walker coat from Michael Kors is on sale for $119.99, a markdown of 56% from the original price of $275. With an extra 10% discount at checkout, the total discount comes to over 75%.

And to help keep those New Year’s resolutions to get more exercise, Macy’s offers Under Armour yoga leggings for $47.99, a savings of $17 (about 26%) from the regular price.
