Drones were one of the big sellers during the recent holiday season. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), nearly 300,000 owners registered their drones after the agency created a website for the purpose in December. But that’s less than a third of the drones the FAA figured would be sold in the U.S. by the end of 2015. Drone owners are required to register their devices with the FAA.
If the latest promotion from Best Buy Co. Inc. (NYSE: BBY) is a smash hit, the number of drones could increase again. The company is promoting four of the devices and savings on three of the four.
The biggest savings are available on a YUNEEC Typhoon 4K quadcopter (YUNQ4KUS), selling for $899.99, a savings of $300 off the regular price of $1,199.99. The drone includes built-in WiFi and a 12-megapixel high-definition (4K) video camera. Regular shipping is free.
A Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 Elite quadricopter (43763BBR) is on sale for $249.99, a savings of $50 from the regular price of $299.99. According to the ad at Best Buy the drone includes a 720p camera that can record 30 frames per second and a padded hull that lets you fly the drone indoors.
Another Parrot drone, the Airborne Night SWAT (4601BBR) is on sale for $119.99, a savings of $10.00. The device comes with 4MB of internal memory and an integrated camera. Like the other Parrot drone this one also includes padding for use indoors.
Best Buy is also promoting a best-selling drone with no price break. The DJI Phantom 3 Standard Quadcopter (CP.PT.000168) sells for $499.99 with free standard shipping. The drone includes built-in WiFi, integrated GPS, and an integrated high-definition (2.7K) camera with 12-megapixel resolution.
