Drew Barrymore, who bloomed from a childhood actor to among the most famous mainstream actresses in America, has launched a collection of furniture and decor with Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT). The world’s largest retailer has gambled that her “brand” will sell products beyond inexpensive merchandise and groceries.

Walmart announced:

Walmart and Drew Barrymore announced today the launch of Drew Barrymore Flower Home, a free-spirited collection of furniture and décor inspired by Drew’s personal travels and familiar places she holds dear. The line is exclusively available now on Walmart’s family of sites, including Walmart.com, Jet.com and Hayneedle.com, with new collections launching seasonally.

Looking at the prices of the items, they are actually surprisingly inexpensive and therefore have not departed from the Walmart reputation for low prices. Barrymore’s image cannot overcome that, at least based on the prices of 200 items, which range from $18 for ceramic vases to $899 for a sofa.

Barrymore may be able to help sell merchandise, but not for very much.
