The end of the year is always an exciting time. It is a time to celebrate with friends and family, to reminisce on the months gone by, and to look forward to the times ahead. Yes, 2018 holds the promise of fun high-tech gadgets and engrossing entertainment.

We’ve been anticipating for a while the arrival of many of the products slated to be released in 2018, including exciting medical breakthroughs, new books, cars, music, television shows, video games, movies, new tech products, and more.

Reviewing each of these categories, 24/7 Wall St. identified the products that already have fans chomping at the bit waiting for the release date.

Big budget superhero movies are massive collaborative efforts between writers, artists, and performers planned out years in advance. Next year, another round of superhero movies are set to arrive, including a follow-up to 2016’s popular “Deadpool” and the latest in Marvel’s lucrative “Avengers” series. For the fourth year in a row, a Star Wars movie will drive audiences to the theaters by the millions. This time a spin-off film about the series’ popular character Han Solo.

The highly-anticipated tech products on this list are in many cases upgrades of nascent technologies, such as the new model of the Facebook-owned VR software Oculus, Google’s latest entry into its popular smartphone series with the Pixel 3, and likewise, Samsung’s new Galaxy S9.

There are too many wildly popular artists releasing albums this year to make the list, but some of the most exciting ones promise comebacks after quiet periods. Avril Lavigne is slated to put out her first new album in over three years. The wildly popular Twenty One Pilots are set to release their fifth album or EP in four years.

Some high-priced items such as phones and cars have taken years of research and millions of dollars worth of development to come to fruition, and we’ll finally be able to see what the companies have been working on for so long. Mass-market self-driving cars are not due out quite yet, but a number of state-of-the-art cars and exciting new models are due out, including the latest generation of 3-series BMWs.

Picking the most anticipated products for other can be tricky, as preference for certain authors or genres varies considerably across the country. Also, the creative process is harder to quantify, which makes it more difficult to put out a hard date for release for some of the categories on this list, such as musical albums and books,

Some of these books, such as the latest entry in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series has been rumored to be imminent for years. Fans are no doubt used to this phenomenon, as they’ve had to wait more than six years for another installment in the epic book series. There’s some optimism author George R.R. Martin could finally deliver next year with “The Winds of Winter.”

As 2017 winds down, here’s a look at some of the most anticipated products scheduled to come out in 2018.
