There’s an old saying in real estate that the three most important factors in real estate are location, location, and location. The same could be said of the priciest hotels in the United States. Properties that are centrally located near all the attractions can command the highest prices. Base room rates can nudge the four-figure mark a night in cities or regions that draw in millions each year for tourism and business, even if some of the destinations are not worth the cost.
Booking a room right in the heart of the action is an excellent time and stress saver, allowing you to use every precious moment of your trip. It’s a delight — and possibly a necessity — to exit your hotel and find the world at your doorstep. Imagine staying just minutes away from your meeting, or the theater, or the beach, rather than wasting time sitting in traffic or searching for parking — as is the case in these cities with the absolute worst traffic in the world.
At price level, your lodging dollar delivers a spectrum of amenities, from wood-burning fireplaces to spectacular views to round-the-clock access to butlers, concierge or spa services, chefs, and more. You may find yourself running errands in a chauffeured luxury sedan, soaking in an infinity-edge spa tub, relaxing with a snifter of brandy in a wood-paneled library filled with fine art, or rolling out of bed to shoot billiards in your pajamas.
Whether your design preference is the traditional or the cutting-edge, there’s almost certainly something in this pricey hotels category to pique your interest and perhaps influence your travel plans.
To identify the 25 most expensive hotels in the United States, 24/7 Tempo reviewed prices at all hotels in the 200 largest U.S. cities by population. We used prices listed on trivago, a global hotel search platform that compares hotel prices from numerous booking websites. We searched for prices during three different time periods – peak season around Christmas time, the first half of June, and the middle of November. We ranked the hotels based on the lowest hotel price per night.
