With the number of daily new cases of the novel coronavirus declining nationally and states across the country reopening, there’s much to feel good about following weeks of unpleasant news. Yet many Americans still may need a good laugh to help them snap out of our collective slump. Thankfully, many of the funniest and most loved sitcoms are currently available to stream with the click of a button.

Companies such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon have assembled massive libraries of content. These now include some of the most popular comedy shows ever released, many of which were at one point only available to audiences via reruns.

To help viewers find the best options available, 24/7 Tempo has identified the funniest sitcoms you can stream this week. We ranked these acclaimed series based on audience ratings from the Internet Movie Database (IMDb).

They range from classic shows such as “The Honeymooners,” which premiered way back in 1955, to more recent shows that are still being made, such as the critical smash hit “Atlanta.”

We also included shows original to streaming platforms, such as “Master of None.” Viewers simply looking for streaming shows to avoid can look here for the worst shows on Netflix.

To determine the funniest sitcoms you can stream this week, 24/7 Tempo identified all of the shows available for streaming — using data from website JustWatch — that are classified as “comedy” by the Internet Movie Database (IMDb). We then ranked the series based on their Internet Movie Database average user ratings, weighted by the number of votes each series received. Editorial discretion was then applied to include or omit titles that we felt did not match the classification of “sitcom” or that deserved inclusion based on other metrics such as cult status or reputation.
