Worst Movies to Stream on Netflix

Mark Mainz / Getty Images

With its library of over 3,700 films, Netflix is home to a lot of great movies – but also to some truly terrible turkeys. That comes as great news to lovers of bad cinema, for whom camp is a virtue. Of course, not all critical and commercial duds are created equal. Whereas some bad movies offer unintentional comedy and other forms of inadvertent ironic entertainment, most are a pure slog to sit through. For instance, we don’t wish 2007’s “Delta Farce” on anyone. (These are the worst movies of all time.)

Meanwhile, viewers might be surprised to discover that the worst movies on Netflix aren’t as bad as the dreck one might find on other streaming platforms. For example, a percentage of horror fans seemed to genuinely enjoy the 2009 remake of “Friday the 13th,” which is streaming this month. And while Paul Verhoeven’s “Hollow Man” or Michael Mann’s “Blackhat” don’t rank highly when compared to the better output from either director, both films are still arguably quite watchable by most standards. (If you want to watch things that are unequivocally good, these are the best movies to stream on Netflix this month.)

The Adam Sandler comedy “Jack and Jill,” however, could potentially scar your eyeballs. It’s but one among a wide number of films that are currently available through Netflix and best left ignored.

To determine the worst movies to watch on Netflix this April, 24/7 Tempo developed an index using average ratings on IMDb, an online movie database owned by Amazon, and a combination of audience scores and Tomatometer scores on Rotten Tomatoes, an online movie and TV review aggregator, as of April 2022, weighting all ratings equally. We considered only movies with at least 5,000 audience votes on either IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes, and ruled out documentaries. (Data on streaming availability, current as of this month, comes from the streaming guide Reelgood, and directorial credits are from IMDb.)
