The Most Anticipated TV Series Coming This Fall

As the pandemic has kept many people stuck at home and possibly glued to their sofas, TV shows have proven to be a wonderful escape. Critically acclaimed shows like “Succession” and  “Mare of Easttown” only made this entertainment medium even more popular. (These are the 100 best TV dramas of all time.)

The fall of 2022 promises a spate of new or returning TV shows that audiences are already excited about. To determine the most anticipated shows coming out this fall, 24/7 Tempo reviewed data from Rotten Tomatoes, an online movie and TV review aggregator. We included new and returning shows considered to be most eagerly awaited by the Rotten Tomatoes editorial staff. Shows are ordered chronologically by anticipated release date. (Only shows with official release dates are included.)

TV seems to be in a golden age, considering the diversity of quality shows available to fans. Some of the most anticipated ones are both familiar and new, including Amazon Prime’s extravagant Lord of the Rings prequel “The Rings of Power” and Netflix’s fan-favorite royal epic “The Crown,” which comes back with a new cast. Others are quirky programs that won a dedicated fan base in their first or second season, like “Reservation Dogs” and “Locke & Key.” Then there are TV adaptations of comic book series (“The Sandman”) or hit novels (“Interview With the Vampire”). Whatever your tastes, there’s something to look forward to. (Here are 20 graphic novels that were made into really good movies.)

15. Reservation Dogs: Season 2
> Release date: August 3, 2022
> Network: FX

Season 2 of the critically acclaimed “Reservation Dogs” just returned with two back-to-back episodes on August 3. The show, which was co-created by Taika Waititi and Sterlin Harjo, picks up with the protagonists — four Native American teenagers– preparing to move to California from their reservation in Oklahoma.

14. The Sandman: Season 1
> Release date: August 5, 2022
> Network: Netflix

“The Sandman” is a fantasy drama based on Neil Gaiman’s iconic 75-part DC Comics series. The show tells the story of Dream, a mortal wizard and the master of dreams, who escapes imprisonment after being held captive for 106 years. He is now on a mission to restore the kingdom of Dreaming.

13. Locke & Key: Season 3
> Release date: August 10, 2022
> Network: Netflix

The fantasy horror drama based on the comic series of the same name returns for a third and final season. In it the Locke family explores its new ability to make keys themselves as they defend themselves against their biggest threat yet.

12. A League of Their Own: Season 1
> Release date: August 12, 2022
> Network: Prime Video

This sports comedy drama series is an adaptation of the 1992 movie of the same name that starred Tom Hanks and Geena Davis. The show will still tell the story of the All-American professional women’s baseball team during World War II but with new storylines and new characters.

11. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law: Season 1
> Release date: August 17, 2022
> Network: Disney+

“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” follows Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), a lawyer who specializes in superhuman-oriented legal cases. Like the Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she, too, turns into a green superpowered superhero. Mark Ruffalo and Tim Roth are in the cast.

10. Welcome to Wrexham: Season 1
> Release date: August 24, 2022
> Network: FX

The only docuseries on the list, “Welcome to Wrexham” follows Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney who purchase Welsh soccer team – Wrexham AFC. The series shows how the two manage the team – which plays in the fifth tier of English soccer, and is the world’s third oldest professional soccer club.

9. The Patient: Limited Series
> Release date: August 30, 2022
> Network: FX

The limited series is a psychological thriller in which a therapist, played by Steve Carell, is held hostage by a serial killer, played by Domhnall Gleeson, who wants to be cured from his urge to murder people.

8. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: Season 1
> Release date: September 2, 2022
> Network: Prime Video

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is a fantasy show based on The Lord of the Rings novels and movies. The plot takes place about a millennium before time in the novel and movies. Some characters are new and some fans have seen before, but they all fight against the evil that is about to re-emerge to Middle-earth.

7. Cobra Kai: Season 5
> Release date: September 9, 2022
> Network: Netflix

Cobra Kai, a reboot of the 1984 hit film “The Karate Kid,” is one of the most successful Netflix originals. In the fifth season, Terry Silver is going to take over and expand the Cobra Kai franchise, forcing his style of karate into the dojos.

6. Monarch: Season 1
> Release date: September 11, 2022
> Network: Fox

This upcoming drama is about a powerful country music family. The show explores how the heads of the family created their dynasty and what they will do to protect its legacy.

5. Andor: Season 1
> Release date: September 21, 2022
> Network: Disney+

The show is a prequel to the 2016 Star Wars spinoff “Rogue One.” The show starts five years before “Rogue One” and follows Cassian Andor as he becomes a hero in the Rebel Alliance that is forming in opposition to the Galactic Empire.

4. Interview With the Vampire: Season 1
> Release date: October 2, 2022
> Network: AMC

The show, as with the famous 1994 movie of the same name, is based on the hit gothic vampire novel of the same name by Ann Rice. The series centers on a vampire as he deals with the misfortunes in his long life.

3. The Midnight Club: Season 1
> Release date: October 7, 2022
> Network: Netflix

“The Midnight Club” is a horror thriller based on the young adult novel of the same name. The show concerns several terminally ill patients in hospice care. They meet every day at midnight to tell each other scary stories. One of them dies and mysterious things begin to happen.

2. The Crown : Season 5
> Release date: November 2022
> Network: Netflix

Season five of the hit drama will have new actors portraying the Queen as well as other members of the family, including Princess Diana and Prince Charles. The show’s storylines will continue into the Princess Diana era, picking up in the early 90s, a period marked by many divorces in the royal family and by Diana’s death in 1997.
