Are Short Sellers Ignoring the 3D Printing Stocks?

Short interest during the two-week period ending June 15 dropped on three of four 3D printing stocks we follow. Share prices also fell on three of the stocks during the two-week period.

Short interest in 3D Systems Corp. (NYSE: DDD) fell by 2.2% to 26.36 million shares. Some 24.8% of the company’s float is short. Days to cover rose from 8 to 11. In the two-week short interest period to June 15, the share price fell 2.3%. The stock’s 52-week range is $6.00 to $19.98, and shares closed at $12.95 on Friday, down almost 7% on the day.

Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS) saw short interest fall by 5.9% in the first two weeks of June to about 8.54 million shares, or 17.6% of the company’s float. Days to cover rose from 9 to 10. The share price fell by 1% in the two-week period and the stock closed at $21.59 on Friday, down about 7.2% on the day, in a 52-week range of $14.48 to $37.82.

Short interest in The ExOne Co. (NASDAQ: XONE) rose 2.8% to 1.85 million shares. About 20.2% of the company’s shares are now short. ExOne’s share price rose about 1% in the two-week period. The stock’s 52-week range is $5.81 to $14.75 and shares closed at $10.10 on Friday, down about 5.5% for the day. Days to cover rose from 10 to 13.

Short interest in Voxeljet AG (NYSE: VJET) decreased by 3.6% to 622,361 ADRs, with days to cover rising from 13 to 14. The share price fell about 5.8% in the two-week period to June 15. The ADRs closed at $4.80 on Friday, down about 4.6% for the day, in a 52-week range of $3.50 to $7.50.
