Short Interest in 3D Printing Stocks Mixed

Short interest during the two-week period ending March 31 rose on two of four 3D printing stocks we follow. As of that date, three of the four stocks had posted a year-to-date gain, and through last night’s close, only one has posted a small loss so far this year.

Short interest in 3D Systems Corp. (NYSE: DDD) rose by 9.2% to 23.46 million shares. Some 21.6% of the company’s float was short. Days to cover rose from 10 to 13. In the two-week short interest period, the share price rose by about 6.6%. The stock’s 52-week range is $11.59 to $19.76, and shares closed at $14.73 on Tuesday, up about 3% on the day.

Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS) saw short interest rise by 2.3% in the last two weeks of March to about 5.07 million shares, or 10.3% of the company’s float. Days to cover rose from five to nine. The share price rose by 5.9% in the two-week period, and the stock closed at $21.10 on Tuesday, up about 1.6% on the day, in a 52-week range of $16.37 to $30.46.

Short interest in The ExOne Co. (NASDAQ: XONE) slipped by 0.9% to 2.41 million shares. About 22.4% of the company’s shares were short. ExOne’s share price added nearly 4% in the period. The stock’s 52-week range is $9.03 to $16.15, and shares closed at $9.63 on Tuesday, up 2.2% for the day. Days to cover fell from 17 to 13.

Short interest in Voxeljet A.G. (NYSE: VJET) increased by 0.1% to 533,046 American depositary shares (ADSs), with days to cover falling from 14 to 10. The share price fell by nearly 6% in the short interest period. The ADSs closed at $2.78 on Tuesday, up 2.2% for the day, in a 52-week range of $2.61 to $6.50. They are down about 2.4% for the year to date.
