3D Printing Short Interest Slides as Share Prices Dip

Short interest during the two-week period ending December 29 fell on all four 3D printing stocks we follow. The shares of these companies continued to pull back from 2017 highs posted in May.

Short interest in 3D Systems Corp. (NYSE: DDD) fell by 3% to 35.71 million shares. Some 32.7% of the company’s float was short. Days to cover remained at 12. In the two-week short interest period, the share price fell by about 16.9%. The stock’s 52-week trading range is $7.92 to $23.70, and shares closed at $9.61 on Wednesday, up about 1.7% on the day.

Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS) saw short interest dip by 0.1% in the final two weeks of December to about 9.81 million shares, or 19.6% of the company’s float. Days to cover slipped from 16 to 15. The share price fell by 11% in the period, and the stock closed at $21.62 on Wednesday, up about 1.3% on the day, in a 52-week range of $18.04 to $30.88.

Short interest in The ExOne Co. (NASDAQ: XONE) fell by 3.8% to 1.89 million shares. About 20.1% of the company’s shares were short. The share price dropped by about 7.8% in the period. The stock’s 52-week range is $6.72 to $14.43, and shares closed at $9.84 on Wednesday, up about 1.4% for the day. Days to cover fell from 12 to eight.

Short interest in Voxeljet A.G. (NYSE: VJET) decreased by 4.2% to 499,411 American depositary shares, with days to cover falling from 12 to seven. Voxeljet dropped about 10.9% for the two-week period and closed at $5.17 on Wednesday, down 3.9% for the day, in a 52-week range of $2.61 to $6.37.
