Short Interest in 3D Printing Heads Higher

Short interest rose during the two-week period ending February 15 on three of four 3D printing stocks we follow. During the short interest reporting period, none of the stocks was able to hold is share price; all four posted losses.

Short interest in 3D Systems Corp. (NYSE: DDD) rose by 1.4% to 38.64 million shares. Some 35.4% of the company’s float was short. Days to cover rose from 12 to 15. In the two-week short interest period, the share price fell by about 2.7%. The stock’s 52-week trading range is $7.92 to $23.70, and shares closed at $10.12 on Tuesday, down about 2.5% on the day.

Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS) saw short interest drop by 2.4% in the first two weeks of February to about 8.13 million shares, or 16.3% of the company’s float. Days to cover remained unchanged at 12. The share price fell by about 1.8% in the period, and the stock closed at $21.82 on Tuesday, down about 1.9% on the day, in a 52-week range of $18.04 to $30.88.

Short interest in The ExOne Co. (NASDAQ: XONE) rose by 4.7% to 1.93 million shares. About 20.6% of the company’s shares were short. ExOne’s share price fell nearly 17% in the short interest period. The stock’s 52-week range is $6.72 to $14.43, and shares closed at $8.43 on Tuesday, down about 1.2% for the day. Days to cover rose from 20 to 21.

Short interest in Voxeljet A.G. (NYSE: VJET) increased by 0.5% to 496,852 American depositary shares, with days to cover rising from seven to 13. Voxeljet dropped about 9.2% for the two-week period and closed at $3.73 on Tuesday, up about 1.6% for the day, in a 52-week range of $2.61 to $6.37.
