Apple’s Cook drops three places in Vanity Fair’s New Establishment list, behind Amazon’s Bezos (2) and Netflix’ Hastings (3) but ahead of Facebook’s Zuckerberg (7) and Google’s Page (12).

From The 2018 New Establishment List:

5. TIM COOK
Age: 57
Occupation: C.E.O., Apple
Previous Rank: 3

Trillion-dollar man: While other tech C.E.O.’s were skewered in the press for their role in the 2016 election mess, Apple stayed above the fray while also becoming the first American company with a trillion-dollar market capitalization. “The truth is, we could make a ton of money if we monetized our customer—if our customer was our product,” Cook recently said, in a veiled reference to Facebook. “We’ve elected not to do that.”

Apple is mentioned in citations for Reese Witherspoon (35) and Mohammed Bin Salman (93). The only other Apple exec on the list is Eddy Cue (No. 76).

My take: Having had a hand in compiling more than my share of such lists, I know how capricious and arbitrary they can be. One of the criteria for putting a celebrity on the Time 100 was whether he or she would attend the party.
