Nokia Fires On Qualcomm

Qualcomm’s (QCOM) license with its largest customer Nokia (NOK) expires in April. Wall St. has been concerned about the amount of revenue involved and that has helped hold down Qualcomm’s stock.

The news just got worse. Nokia has filed complaints against Qualcomm patents in German and The Netherlands.

Reuters quoted Nokia as saying: “If Nokia’s claim succeeds, Qualcomm would be prevented in Europe from enforcing its respective patents in relation to Nokia handsets incorporating such chipsets.”

Whether Nokia believes that its claim will be supported or the move is part of the license negotiations is impossible to tell. It is easy to figure out that the news is not good for Qualcomm.
