Motorola's Nightmare

It was as bad as expected. Motorola (MOT) lost money in the last quarter. Revenue fell to $9.43 billion from $9.61 billion in the quarter a year ago. The company lost $181 million.

Fortunately, revenue increased 20% in the company’s telecom equipment business and 42% in its set-top business. Sales at the equipment business hit $3 bllion, moving the revenue closer to that in the handset business. Profits at the set-top operations were up sharply.

The company guided for a flat quarter in the period upcoming.
