If you are one of the nearly 5 million addicted owners of a Research-in-Motion (RIMM-NASDAQ) BlackBerry, you might be unable to read this from us so far this morning. If you can read it, you still might not be able to send any emails. Last night, the company began experiencing massive outages of service and it has affected the entire Western Hemisphere.
The company is trying to reset the system but it is worried about the flood of messages that will hit the system. The service is expected to come back online, but as of last look this has not yet come about. The customer support center has the following message: "….We are currently experiencing serviceinterruptions that are causing delays in sending and receivingmessages. We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide updates as soon as they become available…."
Shares of RIMM are indicated down more than 1% in earlybird trading. There has been no trading in shares of its rival, Palm Inc. (PALM-NASDAQ).
